Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. 10th-floor studio with AC, pool, & hot tub has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
