How to book the best vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick your Myrtle Beach rental:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 3rd-floor ocean-view studio with AC, WiFi, pool & hot tub - dogs OK has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
