Tricks and tips to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best rental in Myrtle Beach:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. 3rd-floor ocean-view studio with AC, WiFi, pool & hot tub - dogs OK has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach beach you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
