Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Myrtle Beach restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 5th-floor oceanfront studio with pool, hot tub, & AC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
