Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, change your family's Myrtle Beach vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Myrtle Beach area:
- Start by having your group commit to vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautifully Updated Direct Oceanfront King Suite - Monterey Bay 1035 - Sleeps 6 Guests! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
