Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Myrtle Beach attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking yourvacation home:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Harbour Lights™ - 2 Bedroom Villa has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
