Strategies to get the perfect Myrtle Beach rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Myrtle Beach restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Harbour Lights Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC for Bike Week! #2 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
