Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Kingston Plantation Condo with Lake view ... 5 min walk to ocean! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
