Getting the best rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the best vacation rental in Myrtle Beach:
- To start, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean Forest Villas Unit C301 - Ocean view has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
