Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ocean Views Giant Hot Tub & Pool (By Beach Star) has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
