Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sand Dunes Resort North Tower, 17th Floor, Pools! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
