Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To book the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your family decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. 3 BR Condo-Golf Course has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
