Our top Myrtle Beach rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation home in the Myrtle Beach area:
- To start, have your family decide on trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 3rd floor Oceanfront studio with AC, WiFi, shared pool & hot tub has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
