Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. 4th Floor Oceanfront Room Oasis with Pool Access has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
