Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and picking your prefectrental home:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanview 1BR Large Balcony! Dogs OK has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
