Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit Myrtle Beach & When to book:
- Book your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Gorgeous Oceanfront 3 Bedroom Condo! Sleeps 10 Guests! Compass Cove Mariner Tower 1217 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
