Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
How to select the perfect vacation home in the Myrtle Beach area:
- To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Stay in our 1-Bedroom Condo and Enjoy the Ocean, Pools & Lazy River has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
