Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick yourrental:
- First and foremost, have your family choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront & Ocean-view units available; 1, 2 & 3 bedrooms has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
