Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Landmark Over The Horizon has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
