Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the largest rental within budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking the bestrental home:
- First, have your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. GOING COASTAL in Ocean Lakes, 2 bdr 2 bath has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
