Rental home booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Myrtle Beach attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Stunning Ocean Views, Direct Beach Access, Prime Location! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
