Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect vacation home:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious 3 Bedroom Oceanview Condo at Sand Dunes Resort has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
