Tips to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sunny Seaside Retreat with Beach & Pool Access! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
