Tips for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
Get the best value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Wonderful Cottage by the Soft Sand Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
