Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Myrtle Beach. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Picturesque View from the 11th Flr\/ Work From Here has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
