Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in Myrtle Beach. To book the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beachfront Bliss OF 3 BR Condo 14th Floor has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
