Our top Myrtle Beach rental home tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To book the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the bestrental home:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. 14th Floor Beachfront Getaway in Two Bedroom Bliss has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a particular Myrtle Beach attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
