Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to a budget:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- To find the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the perfect rental home in the Myrtle Beach area:
- First, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. 2 Bed, 2 Bath Topsail Cottage—Walk to the beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
