Tips to get the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Myrtle Beach restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 3BR in Sand Dunes Resort, Ocean Front Great Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
