Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the perfect rental home in Myrtle Beach:

  • First, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. MyrtleWoods beautiful first floor condo+pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
