Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Myrtle Beach rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 6th-floor oceanfront studio with AC, pool, & hot tub has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your family.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach attraction you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
