Strategies to get the very best Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
