How to find the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beach house, private pool Oasis has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
