Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. Book your Myrtle Beach rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. #C Beautiful condo at the Surfside area #C has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach destination you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
