Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- First, have your family select dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Delightful Harbour Lights Hotel has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
