Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- To find the best value, consider changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking your Myrtle Beach rental:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Elegant 3 bedroom ocean view condo, 208 Margate has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach attraction you crave, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
