Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Breathtaking Marsh Views from the Balcony of This Charming Cottage - Guest has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
