Rental property booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Gorgeous top floor 3BR condo at Magnolia Pointe has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
