Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Myrtle Beach. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Fun In the Sun ~ Ocean Lakes has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach beach you crave, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
