Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the best rental:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Gray's Landing in Ocean Lakes has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
