Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Incredible 1BR condo, ground floor has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
