Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Large Family Friendly Condo- Beautiful Views of the Pool, Courtyard and Ocean has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
