Our top Rental home booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is high season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting and booking the best Myrtle Beach vacation home:
- Start by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. A310 at The Myrtle Beach Resort: Charming Condo with Fully Equipped Kitchen has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
