Finding the best vacation home experience:

When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Getaway w\/Exclusive Beach, Pool&Hot Tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
