Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation home experience:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Ocean Dunes Villas #25, short walk to the ocean has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
