Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Ocean Lakes Oasis - 4 Lg Bdrms (2 Primary Suites) has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
