Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ocean Lakes Family Campground 2 bedroom 1 bath Complete Makeover in March 2024 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
