Getting the best Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Ocean Lakes Site 1288 Snapper Ln, 3bed 2bath stilts, small-pet friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
