Strategies to get the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental home in the Myrtle Beach area:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront condo with balcony, W\/D, pools, & lazy river - walk everywhere has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
