Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. B114 at The Myrtle Beach Resort: Relaxing Shoreline Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
