Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. T1612 at the Myrtle Beach Resort: Shoreline Escape has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
